Early Psychosis

Early psychosis refers to the onset of psychotic symptoms that fall outside what’s considered a typical experience of the world. These may include hallucinations (perceiving things others don’t), delusions (strongly held beliefs that get in the way of daily life), and things like low mood, low energy, or withdrawing from activities you used to enjoy. Early identification and treatment matter as they can prevent symptoms from getting worse and improve long-term outcomes. The latest research indicates that recovery is possible — a big departure from what was historically viewed as an all-or-nothing disorder.

How I work with it

I’m trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), the gold-standard treatment for early psychosis. CBTp works with the thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that often accompany these experiences and can make them harder. The goal is to help you identify challenging beliefs and develop more adaptive coping strategies. I work closely with families involved and ensure that care is coordinated between myself and any other care providers. My hope in working with individuals experiencing psychosis is to empower them to get closer to the life they want to live rather than a sole focus on symptom reduction.
